St Margaret's Hospice Fundraising Quiz

Porter Dodson was delighted to welcome local businesses to a fundraising night for St Margaret's Hospice at Lanes Hotel on Thursday evening.

Eleven teams from supporting businesses and two from Porter Dodson entered the quiz benefitting St Margaret's, who are Lanes' nominated charity for the year.

Quizzers enjoyed a lasagne supper at the halfway point, where Chesters Jesters were in the lead with Porter Dodson's Simple Minds in second place. It was neck and neck for most of the evening, but the final round was "double or nothing" with many teams taking a gamble on answers and winning no points at all!  The Jesters held their own and came out triumphant, winning a bottle of Langhams sparkling wine each.  Hot on their heels were Milsted Langdon Motivo's Finest and  Adanac Canada Backwards.

With an envelop fundraiser, answer challenge fee and generous raffle prizes from both attending firms and local businesses, we raised £680 on the night.

We were joined by Sadie Ellison, coporate fundraiser at the hospice, who told us what this can fund:

• 1 x day of care for a patient in the Yeovil or Taunton In-patient Unit (£500 per day)
•  7 x Community Nurse Specialist visits to patients being cared for at home in your local communities (£100 per visit)
• 17 x counselling sessions for a child who has lost a parent (£40 per session)
• 27 x middle of the night support to patients in need by one of our 24 hour advice line nurses (£25 per call)
• 136 x freshly prepared meals for one of our In-Patients to ensure their particular diet requirements are met (£5 each)
