In October 2024, we reported on a pilot scheme known as ‘The Transparency Project’, (you can read a copy here) in which a select number of courts were trialling allowing reporting by journalists and legal bloggers.
Two years since its inception, it is now being made a permanent change in family courts. Within a few months, reporting will be easier in almost all family court cases.
From 27 January 2025, the scheme will cover public law children (care proceedings) cases in all courts before judges (not magistrates).
From 1 May 2025, it will extend to private law children cases before judges (not magistrates).
From 29 September 2025, cases before magistrates will also be covered.
There is a separate ongoing pilot for financial cases.
More information can be found on the Transparency Project website, detailed below.
